Komen Advocates in
Science involves advocates in a variety of
scientific activities to ensure that their
perspectives are integrated into the dialogue and
decisions that affect our progress toward ending
breast cancer.
Breast cancer survivors and others
affected by breast cancer provide unique and
valuable perspectives about the cancer experience,
issues that will most influence the lives of those
affected by breast cancer, and the urgency of

SWFL Affiliate Grant Program
Komen Southwest Florida makes every
effort to reduce the social, cultural and financial
conditions that prevent women from receiving quality
breast health education, care and treatment. The SWFL
Affiliate awards grants for community-based innovative
projects in the areas of breast health and breast cancer
education, outreach, screening, and treatment support
targeting services, not otherwise available, to the
medically underserved populations of Collier County and
Lee County.
The SWFL Affiliate's grant program is designed to
promote change in the Southwest Florida community by
funding programs that provide needed breast cancer
services to those women who are medically underserved,
uninsured or underinsured. Since 2002 the SWFL Affiliate
has funded programs totaling $2 Million and made
research payments totaling $750,000. The programs funded
vary as the needs of the Southwest Florida community
changes.
