Komen Advocates in Science

Komen Advocates in Science involves advocates in a variety of scientific activities to ensure that their perspectives are integrated into the dialogue and decisions that affect our progress toward ending breast cancer.

Breast cancer survivors and others affected by breast cancer provide unique and valuable perspectives about the cancer experience, issues that will most influence the lives of those affected by breast cancer, and the urgency of finding cures and ending breast cancer forever.

FAQ's

How do I know if my organization can apply?
Applicants must be a US nonprofit (federally tax-exempt) organization, e.g. nonprofit 501(c) 3 organizations, educational institutions, government agencies and Indian tribes are eligible.

Can I submit more than one proposal?
An organization can submit applications for more than one project, if projects have independent program goals and measurable objectives.

Can I use the grant funds for travel or salaries?
Travel, if requested, is for travel expenses related to the project only and for travel inside the service area, and not for the general travel of the project director or those related to the project. Salaries, if requested, are for personnel related to this project only and not the general work of employee.

How do we get the grant funds and what are the requirements?
One quarter of grant funds are distributed after a fully executed contract. After approval of a first quarter progress report, the second quarter of funding is distributed.  After review and approval of a six-month report, a final check will be written for the remainder of the funds.

Can I change my grant?
Changes can be made with regard to personnel, budgets and timelines with appropriate forms. Changes to the overall objectives, aims and goals need to be discussed with the Grant Chair.
